How Arcana works
Arcana is not a random card generator. Every reading is built from your unique profile — your quiz answers, your scoring dimensions, and your archetype — then interpreted through the genuine tradition of tarot symbolism.
The Insight Quiz
The quiz covers fifteen questions across ten dimensions of your inner life: your emotional intensity, your intuition vs. analytical mind, your openness to change, your ambition, how you navigate relationships, your level of self-trust, your preference for structure or spontaneity, whether you are seeking stability or movement, your resilience, and where you feel unresolved tension.
These questions are designed to be genuine inquiries, not clinical surveys. The language is thoughtful. The categories are real.
Your answers are stored as a session — anonymous unless you choose to create an account — and immediately used to compute your reading.
Scoring and Archetype Assignment
Your quiz answers are processed through a weighted scoring algorithm that produces values across all ten dimensions. These scores are then compared against eight archetype profiles — The Seeker, The Visionary, The Protector, The Alchemist, The Strategist, The Romantic, The Rebuilder, and The Silent Flame.
Your archetype is the framework that will shape how your cards are interpreted. It is not a permanent label — it is a description of how you are currently showing up. Return in three months and your archetype may have shifted.
These archetypes are premium product categories, not scientific diagnoses. They are symbolic frameworks drawn from the depth-psychological tradition of tarot and the symbolic analysis of recurring human patterns.
Card Selection
From the full 78-card Rider-Waite-Smith deck, cards are drawn in a deterministic sequence seeded by your session ID. This means your reading is consistent and reproducible — not random in the way a coin flip is random. The specific cards drawn are connected to you and this moment in time.
Each card can appear upright (approximately 70% of draws) or reversed (30%), each with different but related interpretations. Reversed cards in the Arcana system are not negative — they indicate internalized, blocked, or emerging energy.
The number of cards drawn depends on your membership tier: a 3-card spread for free users, a 7-card premium spread, and a full 10-card Oracle spread for Elite members.
Reading Generation
Your reading is structured into twelve sections, each interpreting a specific dimension of your life through the lens of your drawn cards and your archetype:
• Core Energy — the primary card and its message • Personality Archetype — the full depth of your archetype profile • Present Cycle — where you currently are • Love & Relationship Theme — the relational dimension • Purpose & Direction — career and calling • Hidden Block — the shadow pattern to be seen • Next Opportunity — what is emerging • Message from the Cards — a direct closing message • Action Guidance — three concrete action directions • Weekly Focus — the energy of the coming week • Monthly Theme — the arc of the coming month • Journal Prompts — five deep reflection questions
Free users receive the first three sections in full, with previews of the locked sections. Premium and Elite members unlock the complete reading.
Your Archive
Every reading you generate as a member is saved to your archive. Over time, this becomes one of the most valuable features of Arcana — the ability to look back and see how the patterns have evolved, which themes kept appearing, and where real movement has happened.
Monthly readings are generated fresh each month, calibrated to the current date and your continuing profile. The comparison between readings — available in the dashboard — reveals what the cards have been consistently pointing toward.
